Unified Multi-Platform Push Notifications With IBM MobileFirst

IBM MobileFirst Platform Foundation provides a unified set of API methods to send notifications to devices on which MobileFirst applications are installed. Notification can be sent in 2 different ways: based on sources of events or based on tags.

To start receiving push notifications, an application must first subscribe to a push notification event source. An event source is declared in the MobileFirst adapter that is used by the application for push notification services.

An event source can either poll notifications from the back-end system, or wait for the back-end system to explicitly push a new notification. When a notification is retrieved by the adapter, it is processed and sent through the corresponding push service mediator (Apple, Google, or Microsoft).

While the user subscription exists, the MobileFirst Server can produce push notifications for the subscribed user. These notifications can be delivered by the adapter code to all or some of the devices that the user subscribed from.

The device subscription is created when the application on a device calls the subscribe method. The device subscription is deleted either by an application that calls the unsubscribe method or when the push mediator informs the MobileFirst Server that the device is permanently not accessible.Tag notificationsTag push notifications are notification messages that are targeted to all the devices that are subscribed to a particular tag.

Unicast notifications are targeted to a particular device or a userID. Unicast notifications do not require any additional setup and are enabled by default when the MobileFirst application is enabled for push notifications.

MobileFirst Platform Foundation exposes a REST API endpoint that can be accessed by non-mobile clients. It is another way to use the push service without needing to develop and deploy MobileFirst adapters.

IBM Cloud offerings make it easy to bind your app to IBM Watson services by relieving the pain around authentication and scale. Developers can monitor who is using their app - and how. Users can engage with dynamic and segmented app features and notifications. Build, launch and maintain native, hybrid or web-based mobile apps.

The IBM Cloud Push Notifications service provides a unified push service to send real-time notifications to mobile and web applications. The Node.js SDK is used for sending push notifications through the IBM Cloud Push Notifications service.

Customer access has grown beyond web apps to include mobile, IoT, partner applications and more. CIAM enables unified customer profiles so that you can provide consistent multi-channel experiences and personalized interactions with your customers.

Audiences can be synced in real-time to all of your integrated ad partners, in addition to your product analytics partner for custom onboarding flows, as well as your marketing automation partner for email, push and in-app messages that are synchronized with your paid re-engagement campaigns.

Marketing automation platforms, also known as customer engagement platforms, help brands orchestrate, test and automate engagement with their customers through owned channels such as in-app messaging, push notifications, email marketing, and SMS.

Start-ups may get by with internally-built systems for push and email services. However, as companies grow, it becomes more difficult to effectively scale and automate campaigns without involving significant analyst and engineering resources.

User Acquisition Platforms, also referred to as Campaign Management Platforms, enable marketers to manage, optimize, and analyze their activity across multiple channels using a unified interface, often with at least some level of automation.

For example, 53% of marketers find marketing automation to be the most effective type of MarTech (according to Ascend2). Given the importance of email and push notifications for onboarding and lifecycle marketing, investing in a stack solution for marketing automation is probably worthwhile for most marketers.

First, the marketer came up with an assessment of all the campaigns she needed to run and the expected outcome. You can imagine that you might collect similar matrices for a product manager that is looking for links to drop into different activation flows, or from an engagement manager that is sending push and email, or from a data analyst who might need uninstall measurement.

Google Cloud Build is a fully-managed continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) service that builds and tests your code on every push and pull request. It lets you build your app with speed so you can iterate faster and detect and fix bugs early. The service also integrates with existing dev practices and cloud providers so you can continue to use the tools you love. This blog on Building Continuous Quality With Google Cloud CI CD Pipeline will help you get started with Google Cloud CI.

You can integrate it with popular tools in categories such as testing (e.g., Cucumber, JUnit, xUnit, Nose, etc.), source control (e.g., GitHub, GitHub Enterprise, Bitbucket, etc.), deployment (e.g., Docker, Amazon ECS, Google Container Engine, Kubernetes, etc.), notifications (e..g Slack, HipChat, etc.), and more.

It works with existing toolsets like Terraform, Chef, Ansible, Packer, SaltStack, Docker, etc., thereby providing a unified workflow for any infrastructure environment. In addition, the provision of a web-based interface and command-line tools makes it easy to start with Spacelift.
